Martha was born in 1874.  Martha's father was George Washington Baker and her mother was Lucinda R. Asbell.  Her paternal grandparents were Shird Baker and Elizabeth Betsy Asbell; her maternal grandparents were Joseph Asbell and Mary Paulina or Polly Harp.  She was the fifth of six children.  She had two brothers and three sisters, named Andrew P., Odis, Mary E., Elizabeth and Charlotte.
