Lydia was born in 1822.  Lydia's father was Roy Asbell and her mother was Elizabeth Bicknell.  Her paternal grandparents were William Asbell Sr. and Elizabeth Moore; her maternal grandparents were Thomas E. Bicknell III and Mary Mathuson.  She was the fourth of six children.  She had three brothers and two sisters, named Charles William, William, Alexander, Martha and Jaley.  She had three half-brothers and two half-sisters, named Joseph, John Levi, Thomas, Mahala Jane and Sarah.
