Amanda was born in 1844.  Amanda's father was Joseph Asbell and her mother was Nancy Asbell.  Her paternal grandparents were Joseph Asbell and Malinda Bicknell; her maternal grandparents were John Asbell and Josephine Hurd.  She was the oldest of ten children.  She had two brothers and seven sisters, named Henry C., Melvin, Sirrilda, Nancy Elizabeth, Mary Ellen, Melvina, Sarah E., Hannah F. and Josephine.
