Arie was born in 1897 in Ouder-Amstel.  Arie's father was Izaäk Nap and his mother was Jannetje van der Horst.  His paternal grandparents were Arie Nap and Cornelia Hoogendoorn; his maternal grandparents were Abraham van der Horst and Jannetje Oudshoorn / Oussoren. He had two brothers and two sisters, named Cornelis, Jan, Cornelia and Mijntje.  He died at the age of 83 in 1980.
