Alida was born in March 1802 in Akersloot and his baptism took place there on March 24th, 1802. Alida's father was Dirk Claasz Brantjes / Brandjes / Brandtjes and his mother was Trijntje Dekker.  His paternal grandparents were Klaas Dirkze and Trijntje Krelis (Cornelisse); his maternal grandparents were Arie Thijsz Dekker and Aaltje Pieters Bakkum. He had two brothers and a sister, named Arie, Maria and Aagje.  He was the second oldest of the four children. He had six half-brothers and five half-sisters, named Klaas, Dirk, Dirk, Crelis, Zoontje, Adrianus, Maartje, Trijntje, Elisabeth, Maartje and Alida.
