Aafje was born on January 20th, 1788 in Beemster.  Aafje's father was Dirk Jacobs Beets and her mother was Antje Ariens Leegwater.  Her paternal grandparents were Jacob Beets and Treintje Dirks Slot; her maternal grandfather was Arien Leegwater. She had two brothers and three sisters, named Jacob, Adriaan / Arien, Grietje, Geertje and Cornelisje.  She was the oldest of the six children. She had three half-sisters named Maartje, Trijntje and Trijntje Pieters.  She died at the age of 23 on August 17th, 1811.
