Dirk was born on November 11th, 1811 and his baptism took place on December 1st, 1811 in Opperdoes.  Dirk's father was Hermen Joosten Bart and his mother was Maartje Klaasd Groot.  His paternal grandparents were Joost Abrahamsz (Bart) and Alid / Alijt / Alida Pieters Mantel. He had three brothers and three sisters, named Joost, Joost, Jan, Aaltje, Geertje and Dirkje.  He was the youngest of the seven children.
