Elsken was born on March 14th, 1850 in Hoog-Keppel.1  Elsken's father was Jan Hendrik ten Holte and her mother was Willemina Schreurs.  Her paternal grandparents were Evert Jan ten Holte and Elsken Wansink; her maternal grandparents were Hendrik Jan Schreurs and Everdina Kortum. She had three brothers and three sisters, named Hendrikus, Evert Jan, Jan Willem, Hendrika, Willemina and Geertruida.  She was the second oldest of the seven children.  She died at the age of 65 on January 19th, 1916 in Laag-Keppel (Bronckhorst).2
