Jan was born on March 10th, 1716 in Zelhem.1  Jan's father was Teunis Oldenhave (Oudenhave) and his mother was Vrouw / Moeder. He had a brother and five sisters, named Peter, Aaltje, Aaltje, Hendersken, Evertje and Aaltje.  He was the second youngest of the seven children.
