Jan was born on November 6th, 1763 in Zelhem and his baptism took place on November 6th, 1763.1  Jan's father was Berend Bruggink (alias Molenkamp / Meulenkamp) and his mother was Stiene (Christina) (Stijntje) Molenkamp.  His paternal grandparents were Gerrit Brugginck (op) and Hilleken. He had four brothers and six sisters, named Hendrik, Lubbert, Teunis, Hendrik Jan, Garritjen, Leijde, Berentjen, Mientjen, Janna and Hendrica.  He was the fourth oldest of the eleven children.  He died at the age of 7 on February 4th, 1771 in Zelhem.2
