Steven was born on September 11th, 1814 in Langerak.1  Steven's father was Steven Hermanus Lovink (Lidmaat 1799) and his mother was Jenneken Eelderink.  His paternal grandparents were Steven Lovinck (Lidmaat 1750) and Willemina Vriesen (Vriessen, Vriezen). He had two brothers named Willem and Grada Alberdina.  He was the youngest of the three children. He had three half-brothers named Jan Dries, Jan Frederik and Harmanus.
