Hendrik Jan was born on February 25th, 1759. Hendrik Jan's father was Derk Kranenbarg (Kranenburgh) and his mother was Aaltjen / Aeltjen Jansen / Janssen Kieskamp (Kijskamp).  His maternal grandfather was Jan Kieskamp. He had a brother and four sisters, named Jan Hendrik, Janna, Janna, Hendrika and Aaltjen.  He was the second youngest of the six children.
