Gerrit Jan was born on January 17th, 1770 in Doetinchem, Netherlands and his baptism took place there on January 17th, 1770.1  Gerrit Jan's father was Jan Harmsen and his mother was Esselina (Esseltje) Bannink.  His paternal grandparents were Gerrit / Gerret Harmsen / Hermsen and Aaltje Janssen; his maternal grandparents were Dirk / Derk Bannink and Megtild Kloekenstein (Cloekenstein). He had a brother and four sisters, named Marten, Johanna, Aaltjen, Dersse / Derkjen and Everdina.  He was the third oldest of the six children.  He died at the age of 66 on November 14th, 1836 in Doetinchem Ambt, Netherlands.
