Bernardus was born on January 1st, 1797 in Hengelo (Gld), Netherlands and his baptism took place on January 8th, 1797. Bernardus' father was (Johan) Christiaan Gerbscheid (Garpscheid / Garbscheijdt / Gerpscheid) and his mother was Hendrika / Hendrica Craessenberg (Craassenberg / Grasenberg / Kraassenberg ).  His maternal grandparents were Jan Derk Craassenberg and Berendina Coppelman / Koppelman. He had a brother and two sisters, named Johan Christiaan, Anna and Johanna Derkjen.  He was the second youngest of the four children.  He died at the age of 86 on September 13th, 1883.
