Derk's father was Jan Colenbrander and his mother was Elisabeth Rutgers.  His paternal grandparents were Hendrik Kolenbrander and Geertjen Wijchers. He had two brothers and a sister, named Wolter / Wander, Gerrit and Anna Geertruid.
