Antjen was born in 1823.  Antjen's father was Christiaan Appels and her mother was Willemina ten Brinke.  Her maternal grandparents were Harmen ten Brinke and Geesken Lammers. She had a brother and two sisters, named Garrit Jan, Dersken and Hendrika Willemina.  She was the second youngest of the four children.  She died at the age of 72 on September 2nd, 1895 in Lichtenvoorde, Netherlands.1
