Barend Gradus' baptism took place on January 2nd, 1776 in Doetinchem, Netherlands.1  Barend Gradus' father was Cornelis Aalderink (Aaldering / Altrig) and his mother was Gezina / Gesina Bernink.  His paternal grandparents were Jan Aalderink (Altrig / Aldrich) and Janna Seronde (Syrond). He had a brother and two sisters, named Willem / Jan Willem, Alijda and Johanna Hendrica. He had four half-brothers and seven half-sisters, named Gerrit Jan, Barend, Andries, Andries, Berendina (Barendina), Grietje, Grietje, Geeske, Geeske, Grietjen and Cornelia.
