Jan was born on March 28th, 1764 in Meppel.1  Jan's father was Pieter / Peter Wolters van Hesselingen and his mother was Geesje / Geesjen Geerts / Gerrits de Vries (Vriese).  His paternal grandparents were Wolter Jans van Hesselingen and Vrouw / Moeder. He had three brothers and two sisters, named Wouter / Wolter, Geerd, Geert / Gerrit, Crisje and Aaltje.  He was the second youngest of the six children.  He died at the age of 72 on July 23rd, 1836 in Wormer.2
