Simon was born about 1819.  Simon's father was Aart Cornelisz Wals and his mother was Jannetje Eelkes de Jong.  His paternal grandfather was Cornelis Wals. He had five brothers and four sisters, named Cornelis, Jacob, Sijmen, Aart, Jan, Marijtje, Lijsje, Elisabeth and Eele.  He died on June 23rd, 1899 in Oosthuizen.1
