Volkert was born on March 7th, 1759 in Berkhout.1  Volkert's father was Pieter Jansz and his mother was Trijntje / Tryntje Volkers / Volkerts. He had four brothers and a sister, named Jan, Cornelus, Jacob, Cornelis and Maritje.  He was the second oldest of the six children.
