Jan was born on February 6th, 1701.  Jan's father was Herbert Janse Versloot and his mother was Grietje Hendriks.  His paternal grandparents were Jan Florisz. Versloot and Anaken Herberts (Cornelisse). He had five brothers and two sisters, named Hendrik, Hendrik, Hendrik, Dirk, Johannes, Maijke / Mayke / Marrigje and Annigje.  He was the second oldest of the eight children.
