Berent's father was Koop / Coop Veenink and his mother was Christina / Christyna Smeenk.  His maternal grandparents were Jan Smeenk / Smeink and Grietjen. He had two brothers and a sister, named Hendrik, Jan and Geertruid. He had a half-sister named Berendina.
