Jan was born on October 26th, 1732 in Delfshaven.  Jan's father was Philips / Phillipus Silo and his mother was Neeltje van der Korper. He had four brothers and two sisters, named Cornelis, Laurens, Jan, Pieter, Cornelia and Zwaantje.  He was the youngest of the seven children.
