Johan  was born on December 10th, 1656 in Den Haag.1  Johan 's father was Laurens Schas (Heer van Oud-Wulven) and his mother was Maria van Leeuwen (Vrouwe van Rijnsweerde).  His paternal grandparents were Johan  Schas and Barbara (Sainctaire) van Hoogstraten; his maternal grandparents were Hendrik van Leeuwen and Helena van de Poll. He had two brothers and four sisters, named Hendrik, Hendrik Roeland, Johanna Antonia, Helena Hendrina, Barbara and Anna Marie.  He was the second oldest of the seven children.  He died at the age of 70 in 1726 in Vianen.  The funeral took place on August 27th, 1726 in Utrecht.2
