Elbert was born in January 1810 in Heerhugowaard.1  Elbert's father was Cornelis IJzaksz Nap and his mother was Magdaleentje (Leentje) Elberts Olij (Olie).  His paternal grandparents were IJzak Nap and Bregje Ysaks / IJsaks Schoenmaker; his maternal grandparents were Elbert Pietersz Olij and Trijntje Aris / Arendsdr Bier. He had two brothers and five sisters, named IJzak / IJsak / Ysak, Cornelis, Aaltje, Bregje, Bregje, Bregtje and Bregtje.  He was the fourth youngest of the eight children.  He died at the age of 87 on March 19th, 1897 in Schermerhorn.2
