Jan was born on March 13th, 1792 in Wormer and his baptism took place on March 18th, 1792.1  Jan's father was Crelis, Cornelis, Kornelis Hekelaar (Heekelaar) and his mother was Jannetje  Kok.  His paternal grandparents were Jacob Cornelisz. Heekelaer and Lijsbeth (Lijsje) Outgers Engels; his maternal grandparents were Cornelis Maartensz Kok and Trijntje de Groot / Jans van Dam / Jansze. He had four brothers and three sisters, and also two siblings of unknown gender, named Jacob, Cornelis / Kornelis, Oudsger, Maarten, Dirkje, Lijsbeth, Trijntje, NN and Hekelaar.  He was the fourth oldest of the ten children. He had a half-brother and a half-sister, named Oudger and Aafje.  He died at the age of 72 on June 6th, 1864 in Graft.
