Klaas was born in 1762.  Klaas' father was Jacob Claasz Ham and his mother was Neeltje Reijnders Caswijk (Kruk).  His paternal grandparents were Klaas and Grietje Jans Koster; his maternal grandparents were Reijnder Caswijk (Kruk) and Vokeltje Klaasdr Wildschut. He had three brothers and two sisters, named Reinder, Cornelis, Klaas, Grietje and Fokeltje.  He was the third youngest of the six children.  He died at the age of 6 in 1768.
