Jan was born about 1720. Jan's father was Klaas and his mother was Grietje Jans Koster.  His paternal grandparents were Cornelis Claasz Ham and Lijsbet Baerents; his maternal grandparents were Jan Dirks Koster and Anne Jans Boeder. He had two brothers and three sisters, named Cornelis, Jacob, Dieuwer, Trijntje and Lijsabeth. He had a half-sister named Antje / Aatje.  He died on May 22nd, 1768 in Wijdenes.
