Jan was born on April 2nd, 1713.  Jan's father was Jan Gerts / Gerritsz de Groot and his mother was Guurtje Hendriks. He had four brothers named Gerrit, Gerrit, Ernst  and Ariaan.  He was the third oldest of the five children.
