Jan was born about 1801 in Jisp.  Jan's father was Jacob Boom and his mother was Aeltjen (Aaltje) van Hesseling / Hesselingen.  His maternal grandparents were Pieter / Peter Wolters van Hesselingen and Geesje / Geesjen Geerts / Gerrits de Vries (Vriese). He had a sister named Jannetje.  He was the older of the two children. He had three half-sisters named Lijsbet, Geesje and Sijtje.  He died on November 23rd, 1840 in Zaandam.
