Mary was born in 1762 in Leicester, Leicestershire, , England.  Mary's father was William Riste and her mother was Elizabeth. She had two brothers and two sisters, named Thomas, Edward, Elizabeth and Jane.  She was the oldest of the five children.  She died at the age of 71 in 1833.
