Thomas was born in July 1645 in Gedling, Nottinghamshire, , England.  Thomas' father was Edward Pepper and his mother was Grace Renner. He had a brother and three sisters, named Edward, Elizabeth, Frances and Ann.  He was the oldest of the five children.
