William May

William was born about 1791 in Lanarkshire, Scotland.¹ William's father was Kenneth May and his mother was Margaret Hempseed. His paternal grandparents were William May and Jean Wylie; his maternal grandparents were Robert Hempseed and Ann Hannah Doughty. He had a brother and four sisters, named Robert, Isabel, Elspet, Margaret and Jean. He was the third youngest of the six children. He died in 1851.
