Hendrik was born on April 27th, 1872.  Hendrik's father was George Pieter Fritz and his mother was Esther Wilhelmina de Villiers.  His paternal grandparents were Johan Thomas David Fritz and Anna Susanna du Toit. He had seven brothers and two sisters, named Johan, Hermanus, George, Reolof, Pieter, AP, Jacobus, Magdalena and Anna.  He was the second youngest of the ten children.  He died at the age of 1 on December 13th, 1873.
