Elizabeth was born in 1829 in Essex, England.  Elizabeth's father was William Beard and her mother was Sarah Pepper.  Her paternal grandparents are Benjamin Beard and Elizabeth. She had two brothers named Benjamin and James.  She was the oldest of the three children.
