John Hugh was born in 1885 in Poughkeepsie, New York, USA.  John Hugh's father was John Joseph Lythgoe and his mother was Margaret Larkin.  His paternal grandparents are Richard Lythgoe and Margaret "Mae" Sharkey; his maternal grandfather is Patrick Larkin. He had five brothers and four sisters, named Thomas, Joseph Patrick, Eduard Richard, William Patrick, Charles Thomas, Margaret, Margaret S, Mary and Hannah.  He died at the age of 73 in 1958 in Loogootee, Martin County, Indiana, USA.
