Dorothy's father was August Carl ZANDER and her mother was Minie MAULITZ. She had four brothers and two sisters, named Wilhelm, John, Walter, Herbert, Clara and Hilda.  She was the oldest of the seven known children.  She died at the age of 20 on September 9th, 1893 in Steinfeld, SA.¹
