Gay Hie's mother was Kim Lian (2nd) Kwee. His maternal grandparents were Ing Hien Kwee and Tan Terang Nio - Bini Muda (Surabaya) +/- 81 - 84 years_old. He had two brothers and three sisters, named Gay Djie, Gai Lek, Kim Tjie, Siek Nio and Tian Nio.
