Mathieu Appolin was born on April 16th, 1841 in Villefranque, Pyrénées-Atlantique.  Mathieu Appolin's father was Jean-Louis Olhagaray and his mother was Jeanne-Marie Chapital.  His paternal grandparents were Jean Olhagaray and Marianne Chapital. He had five brothers and four sisters, named Jean-Pierre, Bernard, Pierre Prosper, Jean Théophile, Jean-Baptiste, Gracieuse Pascaline, Marie, Jeanne-Marie and Marie Anne Anaïs.  He died at the age of 7 on September 9th, 1848.
