Antonio's father was Antonio Candido da Costa Aguiar and his mother was Maria Isabel Ferraz de Camargo.  His paternal grandparents were Joaquim Maria da Costa Aguiar and Hebriqueta Miquelina Solano; his maternal grandparents were Cel José Ferraz de Camargo and Francisca Pereira Arruda (de Oliveira Ferraz). He had two sisters named Angelina and Leonor.
