Edith Maud was born in 1880 in St. Leonards, Sydney, Nsw, Australia. Edith Maud's mother was Esther Mary Commens. Her maternal grandparents were Job Commens and Mary. She had four brothers and seven sisters, named George C., Charles J., Edwin Joseph, Ernest William, Anne M.S., Sophia R., Phoebe E., Louisa E., Ada E., Eva Margaret and Clara Elizabeth.
