Margaret Elizabeth was born on April 2nd, 1859 in Raymond Terrace NSW Australia. Margaret Elizabeth's father was William Tompkins and her mother was Jane Bartholomew. Her maternal grandparents were George Bartholomew and Jane Catt. She had four brothers and two sisters, named William, Thomas, James, Stephen, Ann and Hannah. She is the fourth oldest of the seven children.
