Robert's father was William Adams and his mother was Gertrude (Gartred) Adams. His paternal grandparents were William Adams and Mrs Rachel Adams; his maternal grandparents were Joseph Adams and Susanna (Bickham) Bickman. He had four brothers named Richard, William, Joseph and Thomas. He was the second youngest of the five children. He died at the age of 34 on April 19th, 1780 in Ilton, Somerset, England.
