Living's father was Henry James Stephens and her mother was Georgina Fowler. Her paternal grandparents were Henry Stephens and Harriett Clarke. She had three brothers and three sisters, named Thomas, William, Frederick, Eva, Ann and Phyllis. She is the youngest of the seven children.
