Phoebe was born on July 9th, 1797 in Saint Pauls, Little Eaton, Derby, England and her baptism took place there on July 9th, 1797. Phoebe's father was Henry Stanley and her mother was Susanna Dodd.  Her paternal grandparents were Henry Stanley and Catherine Bestwig; her maternal grandparents were ThomasDodd and PhebeWheldon. She had two brothers and three sisters, named Henry, Arthur Hugh, Susannah, Mary and Charlotte.  She was the oldest of the six children.
