John was born in 1871 in Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland.  John's father was John Hargin and his mother was Bridget McGinn.  His paternal grandparents were Patrick Hargin and Jane Hamilton; his maternal grandparents were John McGinn and Mary Brannan. He had three brothers and a sister, named Patrick, Daniel, James and Jane.  He was the oldest of the five children.  He died at the age of 64 on January 8th, 1935 in Gorbals, Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland.
