Alison was born on February 21st, 1835 in Leslie, Fife, Scotland. Alison's father was William Gibb and her mother was Elizabeth Anderson. She had four brothers and three sisters, named James, William, Alexander, Thomas, Elizabeth A., Mary and Christina.  She was the fourth oldest of the eight children.  She died at the age of 45 on February 7th, 1881 in Farmlands, Leslie, Fife, Scotland.
