Janet was born on May 30th, 1721 in Dalkeith, Midlothian, Scotland and her baptism took place there on May 30th, 1721. Janet's father was James Falconer and her mother was Janet Hardie. Her paternal grandparents were Sir James Falconer of Pheldo and Elizabeth Trent; her maternal grandparents were John Hardie and Janet Wilsone. She had three brothers and two sisters, named James, John, John, Margaret and Jean. She had two half-brothers named Alexander and Robert.-
