Amy was born in 1854 in Wisconsin, USA. Amy's father was John Stirling Beath and her mother was Harriet Emma Waldron. Her paternal grandparents were Andrew Beath and Anne Stirling; her maternal grandparents were Philip Waldron and Amy Wait. She had three brothers and a sister, named Andrew Schuyler, John Aaron, Philip Alexander and Margaret E. She was the oldest of the five children.-
