George was born on October 10th, 1833 in Markinch, Fife, Scotland. George's father was Alexander Barclay and his mother was Anne Baxter.  His paternal grandparents were John Barclay and Isobel Machattie; his maternal grandparents were Alexander Baxter and Christian Forbes. He had a half-brother named Alexander.  He died at the age of 53 on November 7th, 1886 in Dysart, Fife, Scotland.
